Building Readership and Search Engine Ranking with Google Reader

Hey Ladies,

Just wanted to check and see how many of you ladies have a Google account and how many of you are using Google Reader?

In most cases when a site puts your website or blog url on their site it gives you a little boost with Google, because it shows that you are a trusted source. If you were reading that sentence carefully you may have noticed that I started it with "most" and that is because Google uses complicated algorithms to rank a page on your site, which means that nothing is absolute. Google looks at the strength of the site that is linking to you, if they are stronger it helps and if they are weaker it may not. Google looks at the content on both sites and whether they are similar, to ascertain whether the link make sense. Finally the search engines, and I should say engines there is more than just one, look at the amount of links on each site.

So the short of it is, that a link on a website or blog is something to think about, where a link in someones reader is not. When someone subscribes to you in a reader, the content does not have to be similar, and the trust factor for a subscriber/reader carries a lot more weight.

So I ask again are any of you ladies using Google Reader, besides Jen and I we are both in the Reader Exchange Group?

If you are you should drop by the Reader Exchange Group and add your blog link and/or rss feed.

If everything I said above is Greek to you, let me know that too and I will give you some more information.

Hey Donna, really does it makes sense? Do you use www.google.com/reader to find stories quickly for our other social endeavors, digg, reddit, etc.? I have folders set up in Reader that have blog buddies, tech, economic, science, news, etc.. That way when I need a topic for a blog post I have some handy research sources right in my Reader, cuts down on my search time.

I use google reader and love it. I used to subscribe to blogs via email and I would get a thousand emails that I would end up just deleting. I agree, now all the research I need is all in one place. I can get to it easy and read/scan it quickly.

I also like google docs. But that's a whole different issue :-)

Got to say I agree with you all the way around Lahne! If you get the blog feeds in your email then you absolutely need to create folders and rules to push them directly into their folder or your email will just be bombarded. I however love the reader because it organizes better, it's less time consuming than wading through emails, and it is easier to share with others.

I also like Google Docs....your separate issue :D
